Eating lunch together is a very important part of the school day. It is a key time to encourage independence and develop social skills, as well as to ensure that everyone has a good meal. School meals are cooked on site. The school catering for all the schools in the Q1E Trust is provided by Lunchtime Co.
At New King's Road School, we operate a compulsory meal policy to ensure that all of the children have a hot healthy meal each day. We have focused on ensuring that the lunch offered is made up of tasty, filling and nutritious food each day of the school year.
All food is freshly prepared on site, sourced locally wherever possible, and served by friendly staff in a safe and secure environment. Our partnership with Lunchtime Co and ProVeg UK brings pupils a healthier, more sustainable menu - recognised nationally with a School Plates Silver Award. ProVeg UK is a non-profit organisation supporting over 100 caterers and thousands of schools across the UK through its School Plates programme.
At Q1E, we are committed to embedding sustainability into all that we do. Our school catering plays a key role in achieving our sustainability goals.
Our Silver Award-winning menu includes:
· More appealing plant-based dishes
· Tasty and nutritious vegetarian options
· Thoughtful tweaks to reduce environmental impact while maintaining variety and flavour
· While still keeping meat options
All meals continue to meet the School Food Standards and have been designed with pupil health and satisfaction in mind.
Universal Free School Meals
In 2023, the Mayor of London announced that all primary school children in the capital would receive free school meals. It has been confirmed that this funding has been secured until the end of the 2027-2028 academic year. All children in Reception to Year 6 will be offered a school meal for the next two years, free of charge to parents and carers. Children in Reception to Year 2 also receive a free piece of fruit each day.
Nursery Meal Costs
For Nursery pupils who are not in receipt of income-based free school meals, school dinners are charged at £3.10 per day (£15.50 per week) payable via SchoolMoney app. Children will also have the option of a bagel and fruit in the mornings and milk in the afternoon.
Applications for Income-Based Free School Meals
If you think you may be entitled to income-based free school meals, please apply via the Hammersmith & Fulham website. Those in receipt of income-based free school meals will also be provided with a one-off uniform grant, upon acceptance of the claim.
