Happy children and happy parents make for an easy start to Nursery. We will aim that the beginning of Nursery life is as smooth as possible for both you and your child. Please let us know if there is anything we need to know to make your child feel confident in those first few days with us.
Our staff are all very experienced and most children settle very quickly with us. We will always call you if your child is unsettled; our aim is to make the children content and confident in Nursery. Leaving your child confidently with a smile and a ‘goodbye’ really helps. If you are hesitant about leaving, then your child will feel less confident about you leaving too.
We allow for a settling-in period which may be different for each family. As an example it may follow the pattern below:
Day 1: Your child will attend for 1 hour from 8.45am-9.45amM, accompanied by you. This will be a gentle introduction to the environment, staff and other children.
Day 2: Your child will attend from 8.45am-10am. You will stay initially, then leave for 20 minutes, returning before the session ends to take your child home.
Day 3: Your child will attend with a normal drop-off (say goodbye at the entrance) at 8:45am, and stay until 11.45am without a parent present.
What to bring to Nursery
As well as their uniform, please ensure that your child comes to school with:
- Spare change of clothes, including underwear.
- A coat – a type that your child can manage themselves.
- A named and filled water bottle. Water only please.

Lunches
Eating lunch together is a really important part of the school day. It is a key time to encourage independence and develop social skills, as well as to ensure everyone has a good meal. We operate a compulsory meal policy to ensure that all of the children have a hot healthy meal each day. We have focused on ensuring that the lunch offered is made up of tasty, filling and nutritious food each day of the school year. School meals are cooked on site and the school catering for all the schools in the Q1E Trust is provided by Lunchtime Co.
The cost of a nursery meal is: £3.10 per day. If you think you may be entitled to free school meals then please apply via this link
Children will also receive the option to have a bagel and fruit in the mornings and milk in the afternoon.
Collection arrangements
It is essential that the school knows if there is any change in collection arrangements for your child. Staff are available briefly at the start and end of each day for you to talk to. Please ring the School Office on 020 7736 2318 if there are any last minute changes, e.g. someone other than the person known to staff is to collect your child.
